History and Origin of Siberian Husky
The history and origin of Siberian Huskies can go back over 200 years. The Chukotka Sled dogs are said to be the ancestors of the Siberian Husky dogs. Chukchi people living in the Northeastern parts of Siberia in Russia bred Huskies not only for their strength and endurance but since this specific dog breed could thrive in cold climates.
Siberian Huskies were used by these nomadic people for their daily lifestyles and chores like sledge pulling, transportation and most importantly companionship.
Huskies started gaining popularity in the early 20th century beyond Siberia. Outsiders started breeding this specific dog breed and were successful in using them in a lot of sports due to their extreme stamina and speed. In the early 20th century, Siberian Huskies gained attention beyond Siberia. In 1908, they participated in the All-Alaska Sweepstakes race.
The breed's allure extended to the Lower 48 states of the United States and other parts of Europe and Asia, capturing attention with their striking appearance, including distinctive markings and captivating eyes. The American Kennel Club recognized the Siberian Husky in 1930.
Today, Siberian Husky dogs are beloved as family pets, companions, and working dogs in all parts of the world and have been bred according to the climates of the specific regions. Especially in India’s hot climate, Siberian Husky were acclimatised and bred over the years so that they were ready for this climate.
