Boxer Dog Food and Care Tips

Taking care of a Boxer in India involves helping them adapt to the climate’s extreme of your region and protecting them from possible danger.

It also involves feeding them a proper diet, ensuring a constant supply of fresh drinking water, and providing shade and an excellent place to beat the heat during the hot summers in India. Helping your boxer socialize with other people, other dogs, and animals and engaging them in physical activities are a few of the necessary ways of assisting them to live a good life.

Can A Boxer Survive In India?

Absolutely yes. Boxers can survive and live happily in India with the proper care and attention they need. A few of the major factors that need to be adequately checked include:

  • Climate
  • Hydration
  • Grooming
  • Healthcare
  • Exercise
  • Nutrition
  • Socialization
  • Safety
  • Training

Regular grooming, including brushing and cleaning, helps maintain health. Scheduling veterinary appointments for vaccinations according to the vaccine routine from time to time not only helps your dog prevent diseases like distemper and rabies but also helps in the early detection of any kind of health conditions that your dog is showing symptoms of or might occur due to genetic and hereditary diseases.

Daily exercise and a balanced diet that covers their necessary protein intake are much needed for them to thrive and stay active. Most dogs fall sick due to the lack of movement and activity, which their breeds need daily to keep their muscles active and joints strong.

Dog Food & Feeding Pattern For Boxer Age-Wise

Proper nutrition and a balanced diet are essential for your Boxer’s health and well-being at every age. The dog food you feed them needs to be very specific to their breed, age, and health conditions.

For the Newborn stage (upto 8 weeks)

Newborn puppies should be separated from their biological mothers at 8 weeks. This is when they should be only fed on mother’s milk and nothing else. Their mother’s milk has nutrients, including colostrum which helps them build immunity and overall development.

For the puppy stage ( 0 to 6 months)

At this stage, a puppy’s health demands food high in protein for growth. Feed your Boxer puppy with high-quality puppy food designed for large breeds of dogs like Boxers meant for puppies. 3 to 4 times feeding is enough for the puppies to grow rapidly and boost their metabolism.

It is also necessary to keep a check on the portion of food to prevent overeating and excessive growth at a young age,

Adolescent Stage (6-12 Months)

This is the transition period when dogs' meal frequency should be slowly reduced to 3. Try to feed them one meal of adult food and the rest two the one they used to. See if they are getting used to the adult food.

For Adults (1-6 Years)

As soon as they turn one, dog owners are strictly instructed to reduce the meal frequency of their dog to only twice a day. Food portions should be as vets recommend to keep a check on their weight. Overeating can not only cause obesity in Boxers but also cause heart and liver diseases.

Senior Stage (7+ Years)

When your dog turns around 7, they can be officially called senior dogs according to dog years. Like humans, senior dogs, as they get old, develop a very slow metabolism. Their physical activity reduces, and other health conditions might appear.

It is recommended that their food is given in smaller portions to aid their slow digestive system at this age.
